France’s all-time top scorer, Olivier Giroud, has revealed that he is leaving AC Milan and joining Major League Soccer’s LAFC. Giroud, who has been a key member of Milan’s squad for the last three years, will play two more games for the Italian team before leaving.
Giroud expressed his feelings about leaving Milan in a recent television interview, saying, “I will be playing my final two matches with Milan and will continue my career in the MLS. I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved at Milan in the last three years. My time with Milan might be finishing this year, but the club will remain in my heart.”
LAFC Jersey
The 37-year-old striker, who was instrumental in France’s 2018 World Cup victory, was recently spotted wearing a LAFC scarf with a team jersey and cap prominently displayed in front of him. His contract with LAFC reportedly extends through 2025, bringing him back together with former French captain Hugo Lloris.
Giroud’s illustrious career includes stints at Chelsea, where he won the Champions League, Europa League, and FA Cup, and at Arsenal, where he secured three FA Cup titles over six years. Giroud’s goal-scoring prowess is unmatched in French football history, having scored 57 goals in 131 matches, surpassing the previous record held by Thierry Henry.
Along with Giroud’s signing, LAFC also declared Neil McGuinness to be the team’s first technical director. From his former position as director of scouting and player recruiting for the MLS champion Columbus Crew, McGuinness brings a plethora of knowledge to the table.
